15 total Golden Bulls’ honors on the men’s and women’s teams

New Orleans, LA – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named All-Region honorees for outdoor track & field in Division II. Johnson C. Smith University had five male student-athletes and 10 female student-athletes earn a total of 29 All-Atlantic regional honors.

The men's team had 10 All-Region honors, followed by the women's team with 19 accolades. Juniors Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and Akino Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) led the men's squad with three selections. Both won honors for their performances this season in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m relay. Sophomore Horane Holgate (St. Thomas, Jamaica) is the only male honoree as a field performer for the triple jump event.

Freshman Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) along with Cheryl Bourne of Ashland, Keenya McDaniel of San Francisco State, Lindsay Lettow of Central Missouri, and Jillisa Grant of New Mexico Highland led all women with five All-Region recognitions apiece.

Fellow freshman Monique Lovelock (St. Catherine, Jamaica) followed with the second most individual acknowledgements for the Golden Bull women with three. Senior Marcia Higgins (Browns Mills, NJ) and junior Xahnn-Georgia Reid (Clarendon, Jamaica) earned honors as field performers. Higgins received an award for the discus and Reid for the high jump and long jump.

In the team count, Southern Connecticut led all men's squads with 38 nods, followed by Saint Augustine's (26) and Grand Valley State (25). Grand Valley State picked up the most honors on the women's side with 32, followed by Lincoln (Mo.) (26) and Southern Connecticut (24).

The top five performers from each region in individual events, and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three earned All-Region recognition for the 2012 outdoor season. A total of 1,274 athletes across the nation received 1,854 USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
