Leford Green is the 400m hurdles Jamaican National Champion

Kingston, Jamaica – Johnson C. Smith University alumnus Leford Green is headed to the 2012 London Summer Olympics after winning the 400 meter hurdles event at the 2012 Jamaica National Senior Championships on Friday evening inside National Stadium. Green is the national champion in the event for the third consecutive year. He won the race with a season best time of 48.88

Green is a 2011 Johnson C. Smith University graduate. While at JCSU, Green won the indoor and outdoor NCAA Division II crowns in the 400m dash during his senior season. He ran his best time in the 400m hurdles (48.47) at the 2010 CAC Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Green, a native of St. Catherine, will represent Jamaica as their 400m hurdles champion in the 2012 Olympic Games. The men's 400m hurdles event is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 3rd during the Olympics.

Fellow countryman and JCSU junior Akino Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) will compete in the 400m semifinals on Saturday, June 30th at 6:25 p.m. (EST). There will be three heats in the semifinals. The top two finishers from each heat, plus the next two best times will advance to the 400m finals. The finals will take place on Sunday, July 1st at 5:15 p.m. (EST).
