Golden Bulls drop three matches in the conference challenge

Murfreesboro, N.C. – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team suffered losses to Elizabeth City State University, Chowan University, and Virginia State University during the two-day CIAA Round-up hosted by Chowan in the Helms Center. The Golden Bulls have an overall and conference record of 0-3 at the conclusion of the weekend.

Senior outside hitter LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) led the team with 17 kills, 17 digs, and two service aces in the three matches. Freshman middle hitter Gracyn Doctor (Charleston, SC) debuted this weekend with 12 kills off 34 attack attempts and nine blocks (seven solo).

Junior setter Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) dished 47 assisted, along with tallying 14 digs. Sophomore hitter Shaquanna Jackson (Greensboro, NC) had a strong contribution with eight kills and five blocks (four solo).

JCSU lost to Elizabeth City State (25-14, 25-9, 25-20) and Chowan (25-11, 25-11, 25-16) on day one. The team returned to challenge Virginia State on the second day, but fell in three sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-21).

The Golden Bulls will face Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. Match play is set to begin on the campus of Johnson and Wales inside the JWU Student Center.
