Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball charged past Chowan University for an 88-69 cross divisional victory on Thursday evening at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA, while the Hawks fall to 5-7 in the standings and 0-4 in the conference.
Aside for a three-pointer by Kortez Smith in the first 30 seconds, JCSU grabbed a lead that would not be relinquished. The Golden Bulls pushed their advantage up to 21 points with 4:40 remaining in the half. Senior guard
Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) was the catalyst with 18 first half points, shooting 64% (7-11) from the floor. JCSU held a 54-40 lead at halftime.
As a team, the Golden Bulls shot 59% (19-32) from the field, compared to 46% (16-35) from Chowan. The Hawks were outscored 26-18 in the paint and 11-0 off turnovers. Junior forward
Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) added 12 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 shooting. Sophomore center
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) contributed with 11 points and six rebounds.
Alray Blackmon led the Chowan attack with 10 points, followed by Chris Williams with seven points and six boards.
In the second half, JCSU did not let their advantage drop below 12 and it eventually grew to 27 with a little less than five minutes left to play. The Golden Bulls shot 48% (15-31) in the final period to finish with a 54% (34-63) shooting performance for the game.
Chowan's bench put up 44 points compared to 13 for JCSU. But, the Golden Bulls won the battle in the paint 52-32 and 14-0 on fast breaks.

Emilio Parks had 19 points and nine rebounds. Williams contributed 18 points and six rebounds, followed by Washington with 15 points, four blocks, and three assists.
Blackmon continued to pace the Hawks throughout for a team-high 19 points, along with five rebounds.

JCSU will remain at home for their next contest against Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, January 12th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium.
