Lincoln University, PA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball dropped the conference season opener 75-68 to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Thursday evening inside Manuel Rivero Hall. JCSU moves to 7-4 in the overall standings and 0-1 in the CIAA; while the Lions improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The first half was a classic example of the talent in the CIAA this season. Both teams exchanged shots on the court until Lincoln managed to grasp a 34-30 halftime lead.  JCSU trailed 18-15 until freshman Joshua Linson (San Antonio, TX) made good on a three-pointer from the top of the key.

The game's third tie was broken by a jumper from sophomore forward Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH). JCSU held a 21-18 lead after senior forward Terrance Washington (Charleston, SC) hit a free throw with 7:13 remaining in the first half. Unfortunately, Lincoln controlled the final seven minutes by using a 16-9 run to take a 34-30 advantage into the break.

The Golden Bulls kept the game close and took a 40-37 lead off a jumper from Washington jumper with 14:41 left. The Lions answered as neither team grabbed an advantage larger than to points during the next seven minutes.

George Jackson connected on a three-pointer with 6:26 remaining, which gave Lincoln a 59-55 lead and sparked a 12-3 run. The Lions took a commanding 68-58 advantage with 2:16 left.

JCSU remained resilient and trimmed the deficit to 69-64 with a layup from junior forward Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) with 1:16 on the clock. However, Lincoln got key free throws down the stretch by George Jackson to pull out the win.

Senior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) led the Golden Bulls with a game-high 23 points, including going 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. Emilio Parks chipped in with 19 points, while Williams and Washington each had nine points. JCSU shot 38% (23-48) from the floor.

Kenny Sharpe finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and two assists Lincoln. Jackson added 22 points, including going 6-of-6 from the foul line.

JCSU will look to even their conference record when they challenge Bowie State University on Saturday, January 5th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD.
