Lincoln University, PA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team dropped their first game of the New Year to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 68-58 in CIAA action on Thursday evening at the Manuel Rivero Hall. JCSU moves to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the conference; while the Lady Lions improve to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA.
Aside from a small lead in the opening four minutes, JCSU faced an uphill battle in the first half. Lincoln gained a 7-6 advantage off a jumper at the 16 minute mark and would not relinquish the lead. Freshman guard
Ny'Jae Dickerson (Wilmington, DE) hit two free throws to draw the Golden Bulls within three (25-22) with 3:47 remaining in the period.
However, Lincoln outscored JCSU 11-2 after the Dickerson foul shots to go into the locker room up 36-24 at halftime. The Golden Bulls shot 26.7% (8-30) in the initial half, compared to 37.5% (12-32) for Lincoln. The Lady Lions held a 27-19 rebounding edge after the first half.

LaKendra Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) with four points and nine boards. Cynthia Johnson paced the Lady Lions with 17 points.
Despite winning the second half 34-32, the Golden Bulls trailed the entire second half. Lincoln never allowed their lead to fall below eight points en route to a conference opening victory.
JCSU finished with a 32% (20-62) shooting night, while Lincoln shot 37% (23-62). The Golden Bulls closed up the rebounding difference for only a three boards deficit (47-44).

Brittany Dorsett (Winston-Salem, NC) scored 13 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 16 points. Wilkerson recorded a double-double of 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Freshman guard
LaTondra Morrow (Charlotte, NC) added eight points and Dickerson ended the evening with seven.
Johnson had a game-high 18 points, but only scored a single free throw in the latter period. Tahlar McIntosh supported the scoring effort with 17 points and 11 boards.
The Golden Bulls must quickly bounce back and prepare for CIAA foe Bowie State University on Saturday, January 5th. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD.
