Richmond, VA
– The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team bashes Virginia Union University 85-52 in a cross-divisional contest on Wednesday evening at Barco-Stevens Hall. JCSU improves to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference; while the Panthers drop to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the CIAA.

JCSU nearly produced a highlight reel in the first half alone. Aside from outscoring VUU 26-4 in the paint, 10-1 off turnovers, and 16-0 off fast breaks; the offense was explosive. Contributing to the damage was senior forward Terrence Washington (Charleston, SC) with eight points and two blocks in the opening. Washington had Panthers' fans cringing after an alley-oop dunk with 1:11 on the clock.

The Golden Bulls held a 38-22 lead at the break. JCSU shot 50% (17-34) from the field, compared to 27.6% (8-29) for Virginia Union. Sophomore forward Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) was a problem for VUU early with 10 points and eight boards at the half.

The dominance continued in the second half with JCSU relentless on the attack. Senior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) dropped 18 points in the final period to finish with a game-high 23 points. The Golden Bulls' reserves ended up playing the final five minutes of the half.

A three-pointer from sophomore guard Jimmy Joyner (Wake Forest, NC) allowed JCSU to conclude the contest with a whopping 33-point victory. Emilio Parks recorded his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Washington ended the night with 10 points, eight boards, and four blocks.

“Tonight was the first time we put together two halves of basketball and it resulted in us being successful,” said JCSU head coach Stephen Joyner, Sr. “We executed well and that's what this journey has been about, working to become one mind, one body, one unit.”

All 15 Golden Bulls played and 11 scored at least two points. JCSU shot 49% (35-71) from the floor and won the rebounding battle 56-34 over Virginia Union. Michael Wynn led VUU in scoring with 12 points, along with four rebounds and three assists.

JCSU immediately returns to the court for a CIAA clash against Chowan University on Thursday, January 10th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium.
