Fayetteville State managed to score on their opening drive to take an early 7-0 lead. Derek Bryant connected with Chris Hubert for a 20 yard touchdown reception. The Golden Bulls responded with a 12-play, 83 yard scoring drive of their own. Junior running back LeAnder Barney (Erie, PA) crossed the goal line from two yards out to tie the game (7-7).

JCSU fell behind again after allowing a 65 yard touchdown throw from Bryant to Dwayne Lorrick. The Broncos scored in just three plays and held a 14-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Barney rushed into the end zone from 13 yards away. A botched snap on the extra point kick led to a failed conversion and FSU held a 21-13 lead. The score remained the same until halftime.

JCSU wasted no time responding with a touchdown on the other end. Alexander crossed the goal line on a quarterback keeper from a yard away. The Golden Bulls had a failed two-point conversion attempt and trailed 28-19.
