Emilio Parks named to 2013-14 Preseason Team

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) kicked off the 2013-2014 basketball season on Thursday morning (Oct. 3rd) with the annual Media Day held at the Sheraton Uptown Charlotte. As the preseason All-CIAA team and predicted order of finish was released, Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball was predicted to finish fourth in the Southern Division. Junior forward Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) was selected to the All-CIAA preseason team.

Defending champion Bowie State University was picked to finish first in the CIAA Northern Division and for the second straight year Winston-Salem State University was picked to finish atop the CIAA Southern Division as voted by the CIAA men's basketball coaches association.

The event featured special guests including the mayor of Charlotte, Patsy Kinsey, Vice President of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Mike Butts, and Donna Julian, Senior Vice President of Arena and Event Operations of Time Warner Cable Arena. Stan Lewter served as the emcee, and revealed the Predicted Order of Finish along with Preseason All-CIAA selections.

The Golden Bulls finished the 2012-13 season with a 16-11 overall mark, 9-8 in the conference, and an impressive 10-3 home record. The team added four more wins to their overall total from the previous year and received the Team Sportsmanship Award during the CIAA Tournament.
Emilio Parks

Parks received All-CIAA honors at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season. He returns as the top scoring option after averaging 15.4 points per game last year. He had the highest field goal percentage of 65.4% (166-254) on the team, in the CIAA, and third in the nation. Parks also did an impressive job defensively, leading them in rebounds with 6.7 per game, 2.1 offensive and 4.7 defensive. He is the only non-senior selection on this year's all-conference preseason squad.

JCSU opens up the 2013-2014 regular season on Friday, November 8th at the HBCU Basketball Challenge held in Atlanta, GA. JCSU will play Morehouse College at Phillips Arena with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
