First home and division win of the season

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team defeated Livingstone College 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22) on Thursday, October 3rd in a CIAA Southern Divisional match at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 8-7 overall, 5-4 in the conference, and 1-0 in the division; the Lady Blue Bears fall to 11-9 overall, 2-6 in the CIAA, and 0-1 in the South.

The Golden Bulls started out with their most impressive set of the match. JCSU grabbed a 25-15 victory in the first set behind the duo of senior setter Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) and junior hitter Jane Tukia (Tempe, AZ). Bazemore set Tukia up and assisted on four kills in the initial set.

Livingstone fell into an 18-12 hole in the second set that was too much to overcome. JCSU managed to close out the second set 25-17 heading into the third up 2-0. The third set was much more tightly contested, but still went to the Golden Bulls.

Junior hitter Imeshia Jones (Reidsville, NC) had the final two kills of the third set for a 25-22 win. Tukia produced a team-high 10 kills, four service aces, and two solo blocks. Senior hitter Sabrina Johnson (Columbia, SC) supported the effort with seven kills and three assists. Jones finished with six kills and four digs. Bazemore had a match-high 18 assists and two kills.

JCSU will remain at home for their next match on Monday, October 7th against Winston-Salem State University. This divisional match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
