Antwan Wilkerson produced a game-high 16 points shooting 7-of-8 from the floor in an 80-53 victory over Allen University
Box Score Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team topped Allen University (S.C.) 80-53 on Friday, November 15th during the 2013 Wendy's/Claude Saunders Tipoff Classic at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-4 overall.
JCSU got off to a fast pace start led by senior forward
Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC). Wilkerson opened up the game with a slam dunk off a fast break. Wilkerson then followed his junior guard teammate
LaMarquis Letchaw (Dallas, TX) with a long range shot from beyond the arc. The Golden Bulls held a 19-9 advantage halfway through the first half.
Allen trailed 32-17 going into the locker room at halftime. The Yellow Jackets shot 22.6% (7-31) from the field, compared to 43.5% (10-23) shooting for the Golden Bulls. Derick McCord produced four points and five rebounds for Allen in the first half.
Wilkerson went 4-of-5 in the first half for nine points, along with two blocks and two rebounds. Junior forward
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) chipped in seven points, six boards (all defensive), three steals, and two blocks before the start of the second half.
The Golden Bulls continued to dominate in the second frame. JCSU improved their shooting percentage to 57% (16-28) in the second half to finish shooting 51% (26-51). The never did not change over in the second half, in fact JCSU pushed their lead up to 30 with less than a minute to play.
Wilkerson concluded the contest with a game-high 16 points, along with three rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Wilkerson shot 87.5% (7-8) from the floor. Parks dropped in 11 points and eight boards. Sophomore forward
Diondre Pratt (Morven, NC) and Letchaw had nine points each.
McCord had a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Jerrod Pettus pitched in 11 points for Allen.
JCSU returns to action on Saturday, November 16th to face Lees-McRae College inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Prior to the Golden Bulls' game; Livingstone College will play Allen University at Brayboy Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m.
