JCSU men's basketball opens with weekend play (November 8-9) in Atlanta, GA and at home on November 15-16 for the JCSU Tipoff Classic
Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball will begin the 2013-14 season this weekend (November 8-9) in Atlanta, GA as part of a reorganized HBCU Tipoff Classic. JCSU is scheduled to play Morehouse College on Friday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m. and then challenge Tuskegee University on Saturday, November 9th at 3:00 p.m.; both games will be played at Forbes Arena on the campus of Morehouse.
The tipoff classic was originally scheduled to be played inside Phillips Arena (home of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks). However, the game have been moved to Forbes Arena and pared down from eight to five teams – Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Johnson C. Smith, Morehouse, Tuskegee and Virginia Union.
JCSU finished the 2012-13 season with a 16-11 overall mark, 9-8 in the conference, and an impressive 10-3 home record. Junior forward
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) returns as the only All-CIAA selection from last season and the only All-CIAA preseason selection for this upcoming season.
Parks averaged 15.4 points per game last year. He had the highest field goal percentage of 65.4% (166-254) on the team, in the CIAA, and third in the nation. Parks also led JCSU in rebounds with 6.7 per game, 2.1 offensive and 4.7 defensive.
The Golden Bulls will open their home schedule with the annual JCSU Claude Saunders/Wendy's Tipoff Classic on November 15-16 at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU will host Allen University (SC), Lees-McRae College, and Livingstone College. Game times are scheduled 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15th and 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th.
