Reigning CIAA Player of the Week Trevin Parks produced a game-high 32 points, along with six assists in a 78-69 loss to No. 7 Winston-Salem State on the road

Winston-Salem, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team loses to No. 7 Winston-Salem State University 78-69 on Wednesday night at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. JCSU moves to 16-9 overall, 9-6 in the CIAA, and 5-4 in the division; while the Rams improve to 20-4 overall, 13-2 in the conference, and 7-2 in the Southern.
The Golden Bulls fell behind 6-0 in the first three minutes of play. Sophomore forward
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) produced a five quick points off two field goals in the paint and a free throw. Senior guard
Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) tied the game 8-8 with a three-pointer at the 15:36 mark.
In fact, JCSU hit five consecutive three-pointers to move ahead 20-17 with 11 minutes remaining. Junior guard
Richard Daniels, Jr. (Winston-Salem, NC) made one three and the other four were
Trevin Parks. As the half progressed, WSSU trailed 29-25 after four free throws by Trevin.
Wakefield Ellison closed the gap with a three and then a foul shot to knot the score (29-29) for the fifth time in the half. The Rams held a narrow 37-35 lead at the break.
Trevin had an astonishing 19 points and three assists in the opening. He shot 71% (5-7) from beyond the arc and 80% (4-5) from the free throw line. Daniels produced seven points off 75% (3-4) shooting from the field and three dimes of his own.
Justin Glover paced WSSU with 11 points in the initial frame.
JCSU found themselves in a 47-37 hole after allowing a 10-2 run to start the second half. The Rams led by as much as 13 in the second half and the Golden Bulls could not cut the deficit below six. After shooting 60% (6-10) from deep in the first half, JCSU went 0-for-6 from the three-point line in the final half.
Six Golden Bulls scored points, meanwhile 11 scored for WSSU. Trevin had a game-high 32 points, along with six assists. This was his eighth game scoring 30 or more points this season. Emilio finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Daniels concluded the contest with nine points and four assists.
Glover had a team-high 24 points for the Rams. Ellison and Marcus Wells contributed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
JCSU return to action on Saturday, February 23rd in the regular season finale against Shaw University. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Southeast Raleigh High School in Raleigh, NC.
