Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team suffered an 88-58 defeat to the No. 20th ranked Shaw University on Saturday afternoon at Southeast Raleigh High. JCSU concludes the regular season with a record of 8-17 overall, 5-11 conference, and 3-7 in the Southern; while the Lady Bears improve to 22-4 overall, 14-2 in the CIAA, and 8-2 in the division.

Chelsea Faulhaber (Spartanburg, SC) gave JCSU a 7-3 lead over Shaw. Isayra Diaz helped the Lady Bears close the gap and tie the score 9-9 by the first media timeout.
Around the midway point of the first half, the Golden Bulls allowed a 16-0 run, which changed the complexion of the game. The Lady Bears held a 47-31 advantage at the break. JCSU shot 35.5% (11-31) from the field, compared to 55% (17-31) for Shaw. JCSU was outscored 24-12 in the paint and 14-2 off second chance opportunities.
Dorsett had 12 points off 4-of-7 shooting (57%), to include making both of her three-point attempts. Wilkerson contributed eight points and four rebounds.
Isayra Diaz and Taylor Dalrymple each had 15 points in the opening half. Diaz was on fire shooting 86% (6-7) from the floor for the Lady Bears.
Shaw maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half, which grew as large as 35 with less than five minutes to play. JCSU shot 26% (10-39) in the final half and was outscored 41-27.
Dorsett finished with 18 points, two rebounds, and a steal. Wilkerson and Faulhaber both had eight points. Junior guard
Kaylah Gholson (Brooklyn, NY) pitched in seven points and three steals.
Four Lady Bears scored double figures, including three that scored 20 or more. Crystal Harris produced a game-high 23 points, along with nine boards. Dalrymple finished with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Diaz concluded the contest with 20 points and five boards.
The Golden Bulls will await the official announcement of the tournament bracket and seeding. JCSU will most likely play on the first day of the 2013 CIAA Basketball Tournament, beginning on Tuesday, February 26th.
