Fans Encouraged to Wear Pink; SAAC to Help Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University Department of Athletics along with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host their 2013 Play 4Kay initiative on Wednesday, February 13th.

JCSU basketball will host a doubleheader against Southern Division rival Saint Augustine's University. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30pm. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will fundraise on Wednesday, including the sale of a limited number of this year's game day t-shirt, with all proceeds to be given to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

“I stand in solidarity for this initiative 100 percent,” said JCSU women's basketball head coach Stephen Joyner, Jr. “So often we get wrapped up in the competition of sports; it's good to honor people that have truly battled in life.”

The 2013 Play 4Kay initiative (formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone) is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $2 million to support women's cancer research. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative. For more information on the on the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, visit www.kayyow.com.
