Fayetteville, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team out hustles Fayetteville State University for an 82-73 victory on Saturday afternoon at Capel Arena. JCSU improve to 15-7 overall, 8-4 in the CIAA, and 4-2 in the Southern Division; while the Broncos fall to 8-13 overall, 3-9 conference, and 0-6 in the division.

JCSU beat out the Broncos in spurts throughout the first half. With game tied 4-4 three minutes into the competition, senior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) dished inside to sophomore forward Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) for back to back slam dunks. Seth Hawkins hit a three for FSU to bring the Broncos within one (8-7). Then the Golden Bulls quickly scored five unanswered points

Fayetteville State continued to trail in the half until Louis Craft sank a jumper to move them ahead 20-19 with 5:02 remaining. A three-pointer from Trevin and then later freshman guard Joshua Linson (San Antonio, TX) solidified a JCSU lead to close the half. In fact, Linson drained a three at the buzzer to give the Golden Bulls a 34-26 halftime advantage.

JCSU shot 39% (14-36) from the floor in the opening, but the Broncos shot 29% (10-34). The duo of Parks and Parks combined for 20 points, led by Emilio with 11. Two three-pointers by Linson gave him six points at the break.
Tyrrel Tate paced the Broncos with 10 points and three rebounds.

In the second half, FSU continued chipping away at the Golden Bulls lead. With JCSU ahead 42-34 with 16:10 on the clock; Fayetteville State ignited with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to grab a lead. Both squads exchanged baskets over the next five minutes resulting in four ties and four lead changes.

The Golden Bulls eventually moved ahead for good, thanks to another three by Linson at the 8:44 mark. FSU continued to put up a struggle, but the JCSU fast pace offense and solid free throw shooting was too much to overcome.

JCSU shot 95% (19-20) from the foul line in the second half and 92% (22-24) for the game. Fayetteville State connected on 13 of their 22 free throw attempts (59%); meaning the Golden Bulls made as many free throws as the Broncos attempted.
