Largest margin of defeat this season

Box Score Fayetteville, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell 81-48 to the 25th ranked Fayetteville State University on Saturday afternoon inside the Felton J. Capel Arena. JCSU moves to 7-14 overall, 4-8 in the conference, and 2-4 in the Southern Division; while the Lady Broncos improve to 19-3 overall, 11-1 in the CIAA, and 5-1 in the division.

Senior guard Brittany Dorsett (Winston-Salem, NC) started the scoring with a three-pointer. From there it was pretty much downhill for the Golden Bulls. Fayetteville responded with 10 unanswered points. After a timeout and a few scoring series, JCSU managed to get within one (19-18) with 10:09 on the clock. However, the Golden Bulls could never grab another lead and trailed 44-31 at the half.

Dorsett had a first half team-high of nine points at the break. Junior guard Deanna Downer (Elberton, GA) supported the effort with eight points and four rebounds. Junior forward LaKendra Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) and sophomore center Chelsea Faulhaber (Spartanburg, SC) chipped in six points each.

Shuanda Ashford and Akysia Resper paced the Lady Broncos with 13 points apiece in the opening.

Fayetteville State dominated the second half. The Golden Bulls were outscored 23-6 in the initial nine minutes of play in the final frame. FSU led by as much as 38 (81-43) before concluding the contest with an 81-48 victory.

JCSU shot 33% (18-55) from the field compared to 54% (34-63) shooting for Fayetteville State. The Lady Broncos won points in the paint 50-24, points off turnovers 22-11, and forced JCSU into 24 turnovers.

Downer had a team-high 11 points with five rebounds and two assists. Dorsett ended with nine, followed by Wilkerson and Faulhaber with eight points each.

Four Lady Broncos scored double figures led by Ashford with 23 points and seven boards. Kirsten Hanzer recorded 18 points and nine steals. Resper had 15 points and Alicia Person produced 10 points.

This was the largest margin of defeat for JCSU this season, eclipsing their 64-40 loss to Paine in the second game of the year.

The Golden Bulls return home for their next contest against Saint Augustine's University on Wednesday, February 13th. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU will host their annual Play 4 Kay initiative to raise breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show solidarity towards the cause.
