Birmingham, AL – The Johnson C. Smith University men's indoor track and field team placed 15th among 49 competing institutions at the 2013 NCAA Division II Championships hosted by the Gulf South Conference and the city of Birmingham. The Golden Bulls competed in the 400 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, and 1600 meter relay.

Senior Andre Collins (Kingston, Jamaica) clocked a time of 7.82 in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles. Unfortunately, Collins' time did not advance him to the finals of the event.

In the 400m dash, senior Akino Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) established a new personal best of 46.88 in the prelims. Ming returned to place second in the finals with a time of 47.20. He earned eight points towards the team score.

Freshman Waynee Hyman (Warwick, NY), Ming, senior Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica), and junior Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) advanced JCSU to the finals of the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:12.68 in the prelims. Instead of Berch, freshman Patrick Campbell (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) competed in the finals. The Golden Bulls finished fourth in 3:13.49 for the event to add five points to the team score.

Saint Augustine's and Virginia State also participated in the championships. The Falcons won the team crown with a total of 72 points.

Ming earned All-American status for his performances in the 400m and the 1600m relay. Berch, Brown, Campbell, and Hyman all earned All-American honors for competing in the 1600m relay.
