Imeshia "Mercedes" Jones has been instrumental in the JCSU four-match winning streak, including eight kills and 10 digs against Voorhees
Box Score Denmark, SC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team swept Voorhees Colleges 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-21) on Tuesday evening inside the Tigers' Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 5-3 overall by winning their fourth consecutive match. This is the first time the Golden Bulls have won four straight matches since the 2003 season.
JCSU totally dominated the first set of the match against Voorhees. The Tigers allowed 14 consecutive points within the first set, while only scoring four points throughout. The second set also easily favored the Golden Bulls. The third and final set was much more tightly contest, but Voorhees still suffered a shutout.
Junior hitter Jane Tukia (Temple, AZ) led the attack with 11 kills, six digs, and two blocks. Tukia currently leads JCSU in kills this season with 54 in eight matches. Junior Imeshia Jones (Reidsville, NC) followed the effort with eight kills, 10 digs, and a service ace. Senior setter Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) had a match-high 26 assists along with five digs in the win.
The Golden Bulls sparked their winning streak with three victories against the CIAA North teams in the Roundup hosted by Lincoln University (PA). JCSU trumped Bowie State, Lincoln (PA), and Virginia Union in three sets each.
JCSU will host Saint Augustine's University on Thursday, September 19th for their 2013 home opener. Match play is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium.
