Box Score Fayetteville, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team falls 72-67 to Fayetteville State University on Saturday, January 18th in Felton J. Capel Arena. JCSU moves to 11-6 overall, 3-4 in the CIAA, and 0-1 in the Southern Division. The Broncos improve to 12-5 overall, 5-2 in conference, and 1-0 in the division.
Senior forward
Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) started out scoring five of the first seven points for JCSU. Williams finished at the rim with a dunk for the initial points. After falling behind 6-4, Williams moved the Golden Bulls ahead 7-6 with a three pointer at the 16:26 mark. Fayetteville State trailed 10-8 with 13:37 on the clock after a made three from sophomore guard

The Broncos responded with nine unanswered points to claim a 17-10 advantage with 11:09 left in the first half. A three pointer from junior guard
LaMarquis Letchaw (Dallas, TX) and two scores inside from Williams and junior forward
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) tied the game 17-17 with 8:48 remaining in the first.
JCSU was outscored 22-14 after knotting up the score and faced a deficit the final eight minutes of the opening. Fayetteville State held a 39-31 lead at halftime. Williams had 13 points off 6-of-9 shooting (67%) in the initial frame. Tyrrel Tate and Marquette Hill both had 10 points for FSU at the break.
The Golden Bulls trailed in the second half all the way down to the four minute mark. After chipping away at the FSU lead, freshman
Patrell Rogers (Wilson, NC) sank two free throws to finally give JCSU a 65-64 lead with 3:53 on the clock.
FSU made three of their next four foul shots and eventually grabbed a 69-67 lead off a tip-in from Torian Showers with two minutes remaining. Williams had an opportunity to tie the game again at the free throw line, but missed both attempts at the 1:25 mark. Meanwhile, Joshua Dawson extended the Broncos lead to 71-67 with a layup on the other end.
Shooting woes from the foul line continued for the Golden Bulls. Senior forward
Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) could have trimmed the deficit to two with less than 30 seconds left. Wilkerson also missed both shots at the charity stripe and the Broncos managed to close out the game with a win.
Parks concluded the contest with a game-high double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, along with three blocks. Williams had 18 points and three boards. Rogers provided a spark with nine points in a limited role off the bench.
Four produced double figures in scoring for FSU led by Tate with 21 points. Dawson had 20 points and five assists. Louis Craft and Hill ended the night with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
JCSU will be looking to bounce back from their four-game road stretch. The Golden Bulls will face Saint Augustine's University on Wednesday, January 22nd at Brayboy Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
