JCSU stops two game losing streak

Box Score The Johnson C. Smith volleyball team broke a two match losing streak as they swept the Johnson & Wales Wildcats 3-0 Tuesday evening in Brayboy Gymnasium.  JCSU won 25-16, 25-11 and 25-12.  The match evened the score between the two teams.  JWU had defeated the Golden Bulls 3-2 when they met back on September 9.

In the first set with JCSU leading 6-5, the Golden Bulls went on a 6-1 run, highlighted by three straight kills by Gracyn Doctor, to extend their lead to 12-6.  After a timeout by Johnson & Wales with JCSU leading 19-13, the Golden Bulls finished the game with a 6-3 run to take the first set.

JCSU opened the second set with a 10-0 run and never looked back, breezing to a 25-12 win.

In the third set with the score tied at 9-9, JCSU put together a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead.  JWU only scored two more points and the Golden Bulls won the third set, 25-11.

Saless Stoval (11 kills) and Kathleen Janda (10 kills & 6 blocks) led the team in scoring with Khadijah Segure contributing seven digs.

JCSU returns to action Wednesday, October 1 when they travel up I-85 to Salisbury to face the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm.
