JCSU men's basketball tops Saint Augustine's 85-78 for their final road game of the regular season
Box Score Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team closes out their regular season road schedule with an 85-78 victory over Saint Augustine's University on Monday, February 17th at Emery Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 14-10 overall, 6-8 in the CIAA, and 3-5 in the division. The Falcons fall to 11-13 overall, 4-10 in conference, and 1-7 in the Southern.
The first half was a back and forth battle for the lead. There were 11 lead changes and eight ties in the opening alone. Senior forward
Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) scored the final points of the half with a layup. The basket from Wilkerson gave the Golden Bulls a 33-32 advantage at the break.
JCSU shot 40% (14-35) from the floor compared to 33% (12-36) shooting for the Falcons. Senior forward
Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) led the Golden Bulls with seven points in the opening.
Saint Augustine's faced a deficit for the entire second half. JCSU eventually accelerated past the Falcons. Amere May converted a layup for SAU to trim the Golden Bulls' lead down to 62-57 with 7:08 left to play. Sophomore guard
Joshua Linson (San Antonio, TX) drained a three pointer on the next possession. That long-range shot was the beginning of an 11-0 run which pretty much sealed the win.
Junior forward
Emilio Parks had a team-high 16 points along with five rebounds. Sophomore center
Alandre Davis added 14 points and eight rebounds. Wilkerson finished with 12 points and eight boards.
Joel Kindred scored 19 points and May added 17 points for Saint Augustine's. The duo led four St. Aug players in double figures. Jonathan Crawley produced 13 points and Daniel Clark finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Both teams improved their shooting percentages in the second half. The Falcons shot 54% (15-28) while JCSU connected on 60% (22-37) of their shots.
The Golden Bulls return to their home floor for their next contest against Winston-Salem State University on Wednesday, February 19th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU will host their annual Coaches versus Cancer Game. Both coaching staffs will wear athletic footwear with their business attire on the sideline in support of the cancer awareness effort.
