Spectators encouraged to wear Pink in support of the cause

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team will host their annual "Strike Out Cancer" game on Sunday, February 23rd at Biddleville Park. The Golden Bulls will challenge Salem International University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon.

The purpose of the event is to raise cancer awareness and prevention. JCSU softball will acknowledge a faculty/staff cancer survivor and have a celebratory balloon release in-between games. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and show your support for the event.

The Charlotte Fire Department will be gracious enough to have their eye-catching pink fire truck, "The Pink Lady" on location. The vehicle serves a dual role: a working fire truck to be used as a reserve apparatus throughout the city, and a visible reminder to the public for awareness, prevention, early detection, and a vigilant reminder to all who see her regarding the fight against cancer.

"This is a worthwhile cause and our program is excited to contribute to the initiative," said JCSU softball head coach Warren Brooks. "Considering the fact that I coach a women's sport, I definitely want our student-athletes aware and knowledgeable about cancer and the preventative measures."

Donations will be accepted and will benefit the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) "Strike Out Cancer" program. Fans and spectators are encouraged to wear pink in support of the initiative.
