JCSU defeated Winston-Salem State 89-86 in the overtime conclusion at Brayboy Gymnasium on February 21st
Box Score Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team finished out their game against Winston-Salem State University from February 19th with an 89-86 overtime victory. JCSU improves to 15-10 overall, 10-5 in the conference, and 4-5 in the division; while the Rams fall to 15-10 overall, 10-5 in the CIAA, and 6-3 in the Southern.
The contest halted on Wednesday, February 19th with the score tied 76-76 and headed to overtime. The contest was interrupted due to a light fixture that was broken during the final seconds of regulation play. Officials and school representatives on the scene determined that overtime play could not continue at the time due to safety precautions.
So today, the Rams of Winston-Salem State travel back to Charlotte and reached a conclusion.
Sophomore center
Alandre Davis (Wilson, NC) started things off with a jumper in the paint. Davis scored the first three field goals for the Golden Bulls. WSSU trailed 82-78 with 2:32 to play after two free throws from junior guard
LaMarquis Letchaw (Dallas, TX).
Back to back layups from Marquez Jones and WyKevin Bazemore tied the game 82-82 with 1:15 remaining. Davis hit another jumper to break the tie in favor of JCSU. Tyre Desmore answered on the other end to knot up the game once more. With 16 seconds to play, sophomore guard
Joshua Linson (San Antonio, TX) continued to hot shooting with a three pointer for an 87-84 advantage.
The Rams scored an additional field goal, but Letchaw sealed the win with two free throws. JCSU closed out the longest game in school history with a win.
Linson concluded the contest with a game and career high of 28 points, along with six assists and four rebounds. He was 10-of-14 (71%) from the floor, including six three pointers. Parks had 20 points, four rebounds, and two blocks; all in regulation. Wilkerson had a double-double of 13 points, 10 boards (all defensive), and two blocks.
Jones had a team-high 25 points for the Rams. Ross III contributed with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Bazemore finished with 18 points and nine boards.
The Golden Bulls will close out the regular season at home against Shaw University on Saturday, February 22nd. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU will celebrate seniors
