JCSU basketball tips off the 2014 CIAA Tournament on Tuesday, February 25th. The women play Chowan at 5:00 p.m. and the men play Virginia Union at 7:20 p.m. inside Time Warner Cable Arena.
Charlotte, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has released its pairings for the 2014 CIAA Basketball Tournament as determined by the Basketball Tournament Committee. Both of the Johnson C. Smith University basketball teams will enter the tournament as the 5th seed out of the Southern Division and will begin play on Tuesday, February 25th.
The women's team will face Chowan University (4th seed – Northern) at 5:00 p.m. The men's team will square off against Virginia Union University at 7:20 p.m. All games will be played at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Uptown Charlotte.
Earlier this season, the Golden Bull women were victorious on the road against Chowan, 75-59. The winner of this opening-round matchup will meet top seed from the South Division, Fayetteville State, at 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26th.
The JCSU men's team jumps into action on day one to face The Panthers of Virginia Union University as the 6th seed in the Northern Division. These two teams split their season series this year. The Golden Bulls topped VUU 65-59 in Richmond, VA. Virginia Union avenged the loss with an 83-73 victory in Brayboy Gymnasium.
The winner of this opening-round matchup will meet 4th seed from the North Division, Virginia State, at 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26th.
