Both JCSU tennis programs suffered 9-0 shut outs against GA Regents, but return to action on February 8th at home against Catawba
Augusta, GA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's tennis teams suffered 9-0 losses to Georgia Regents University of Augusta on Sunday, February 2nd at the Newman Tennis Center. Both JCSU teams move to 0-3 in the overall standings.
The number one doubles pair of junior
Darrell Sawyer (Cincinnati, OH) and senior
Dion Chever (Newport News, VA) was shut out 8-0 by Victor Cabelios and Victor Guimarraes. The sophomore duo of
Sharif Axam (Atlanta, GA) and
Yusuf Barnes (Leander, TX) faced a similar fate, being blanked 8-0 by Romain Bruine and Romain Ferreira. Junior
Tuan Nguyen (Greensboro, NC) and sophomore
Hazel Vazquez-Xaca (Pageland, SC) lost 8-1 to Nameer Sherrsi and Gustav Anderson.
The men's team suffered a defeat in each one of the six singles' matches.
The women's side, JCSU lost all three doubles matches to fall behind 0-3. In singles competition, senior
Keiana Love (Wilson, NC) fell 6-1 in both sets at the number spot. Junior
Rankin Anderson (Decatur, GA), sophomore
Khadijha Battle (Atlanta, GA) and senior
Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) lost 6-0, 6-1 in the number two, three, and four singles positions, respectively.
Junior
Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, GA) and freshman
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, GA) were scoreless 6-0, 6-0 in both sets of number five and six singles.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, February 8th against Catawba College. Match play is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts on the campus of JCSU.
