Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's outdoor track and field team began their 2014 season at the UNC Charlotte 49ers Track Classic held at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on the campus of UNCC.

Sophomore Patrick Campbell (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) won the 400m hurdles event in a personal best (PB) time of 52.74. The time met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards and placed Campbell at No. 4 on the TFRRS performance list.

Senior captain Randale Watson (Kingston, Jamaica) hurled the shot 16.55m, which was good for third place in the shot put event. The throw is a NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks Watson No. 5 on the TFRRS performance list.

Freshman Joshua Cunningham (Ontario, Canada) placed third in the 400m in a new (PB) time of 47.66. The time is a NCAA Division II provisional qualifier and ranks No. 7 on the TFRRS performance list. Senior Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) was the fifth fastest qualifier (48.21) from the preliminary heats.

Redshirt freshman David Ellis recorded 11.16 in the 100m.

JCSU alumnus Leford Green (20.72) was placed second in the 200m. Sophomore Waynee Hyman (Warwick, NY) was the best finisher for JCSU recording a time of 21.75 and finished in 13th position.

Junior Geovanie Foote (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) had the 28th best time (1:58.54) on the day in the 800m event.

The 4x400m team of Hyman, Campbell, junior Rajiv Service (Trelawny, Jamaica) and Foote recorded a time of 3:20.75 for 14th overall in the event.

Senior Horane Holgate (St. Thomas, Jamaica) recorded 6.64m for 17th in the long jump. Watson (42.63m) and sophomore Tracy Jones (42.00m) placed 18th and 19th, respectively in the discus event.

Senior thrower Kenneth Page (Valley, AL) opened his account for JCSU with 40.87m in the javelin, while senior Joshua Chasse (Fayetteville, NC) measured at 38.69m in the same event.

The Golden Bulls will compete at the Raleigh Relays on March 28-29.
