Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team defeated Livingstone College by big margins (9-1, 21-4) in a CIAA Southern Divisional doubleheader on Wednesday, March 26th at Biddleville Park. JCSU has won three consecutive games to improve to 9-13 overall and 5-3 in CIAA play.

The Golden Bulls waited no time pouncing on Livingstone in the first game. JCSU had three hits and three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, CA) turned on the jets for an inside the park homerun, which also scored freshman outfielder Breanna Archibald (Wendell, NC) from second base.

In the bottom of the third inning, both junior centerfielder Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, GA) and freshman third baseman Morgan Hasty (Salem, IN) hit triples. Hasty earned the RBI by bringing home Anderson with her deep ball. JCSU held a 7-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.

Livingstone produced two hits and a run at the top of the sixth to avoid a shutout. Hernandez slugged a double to left center to begin the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Monique Jefferson (West Hills, CA) blasted a 2-RBI homerun to left center to close out the first contest. The Golden Bulls picked up a 9-1 victory in the bottom of the sixth due to the NCAA eight-run rule.

Freshman pitcher Victoria Lopez (San Diego, CA) got the win on the mound. Lopez pitched five innings with seven strikeouts, no runs allowed, and only three hits. Sophomore pitcher Melissa Vierra (Tracy, CA) stepped in and earned the save.

Game two was even more of a dominant performance for JCSU. The Golden Bulls had seven runs scored in the second inning, followed by an enormous 13-run third inning. Livingstone allowed a total of 21 runs and 11 hits in four and a half innings of play.

JCSU had 18 RBIs in game two. Anderson, Hasty, and Jefferson all had homeruns in the second contest. Lopez also picked up the win in game two with the save going to junior pitcher Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, NY).

The Golden Bulls return to action on Saturday, March 29th in a divisional doubleheader against Winston-Salem State University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NC.
