JCSU men's and women's indoor track and field had 10 student-athletes earn 19 USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the 2014 season
New Orleans, LA – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the All-Region honorees for the 2013-14 Division II indoor track & field season. Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's indoor track and field received 19 honors amongst 10 individuals. There were eight student-athletes from the women's team and two from the men's team.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season.
Men's All-Region awards went to 536 different student-athletes, who combined for 770 total awards. Seniors
Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and
Randale Watson (Kingston, Jamaica) were the two selections for the JCSU men. Berch has been selected for his performance in the 400m. He finishes his final indoor season at No. 7 based on the final performance list for the 2014 NCAA indoor season.
Watson earned the distinction in the shot put event. He won the shot put event and set a new JCSU record of 16.46 at the George Mason Invitational. The throw ranks No. 23 on TFRRS final performance list for the 2014 NCAA indoor season.
The women saw 525 separate competitors accumulate 776 total honors. Both junior
Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) and Stephanie Rhoden of Benedict topped the list with five All-Region awards apiece.
Elliott received All-Region honors in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 60m hurdles, and as a member of the 4x400 relay team. She is ranked No. 8 on the TFRRS final performance list in the 60m for the 2014 NCAA indoor season.
Senior
Danielle Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) received three honors in the 60m, 200m, and 60m hurdles events. Williams ends the 2014 indoor season ranked No. 1 in the 60m, 60m hurdles and 200m on the TFRRS final performance list for the 2014 NCAA indoor season.
Sophomore
Tovea Jenkins (St. James, Jamaica), freshman
Domenique Julius-Williams (Ontario, Canada), and sophomore
Shamaz Quince (West Palm Beach, FL) all received All-Region honors in two events each. Jenkins in the 400m and a member of the 4x400m relay team, Julius-Williams in the 800m and 4x400m relay, and Quince in the 60m hurdles and long jump events.
Freshman
Crystal Campbell (St. Catherine, Jamaica) picked up honors in her initial season on the 4x400m relay squad. Junior
Imeshia Jones (Reidsville, NC) received regional accolades in the shot put event. Sophomore
Trudy-Ann Richards (St. Thomas, Jamaica) was the final JCSU honoree in the 200m event.
The 2014 NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place in Winston-Salem, NC on March 14-15 at the JDL Indoor Fast Track.
