2014 JCSU TRACK AND FIELD INVITATIONAL NAMED USTFCCCA NATIONAL MEET OF THE WEEK

First time honor for the invitational

JCSU INVITATIONAL SCHEDULE

New Orleans, LA – The 2014 Johnson C. Smith University Track and Field Invitational has been designated as the Division II National Meet of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The JCSU Track and Field Invitational is a two-day event held on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University at the Irwin Belk Complex on April 11-12th.

Among those who could be in the field include reigning individual outdoor national champions in senior sprinter Danielle Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and fellow CIAA rival Livingstone College's Quanera Hayes on the women's side. Jermaine Jones of Saint Augustine's will be on hand for the men, along with senior 400m sprinter Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica). Fans may also see world-leading 400-meter hurdler Roxroy Cato on the Saint Augustine's men team.

The No. 2 nationally ranked JCSU women's team is up against No. 15 Saint Augustine's and No. 23 Livingstone. The defending men's outdoor champion No. 1 Saint Augustine's men will take on the No. 22 JCSU men's squad.

In addition to the competition taking place on the collegiate level, there will be several professional athletes competing. 2012 London Summer Olympians and JCSU alumni Leford Green and Shermaine Williams will be in competition. Fellow JCSU alumna Lakeavia Tyler will participate in the women's 100m hurdles.

Clemson alumnus and Charlotte native Spencer Adams will compete in the men's 110m hurdles. Adams was the 2012 ACC Champion in the 60m hurdles. Enrique Llanos, represented Puerto Rico at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, will also participate in the men's 110m hurdles.

Other notable athletes competing in the JCSU Invitational include Andrea Bliss (100m hurdles), Tiffany Williams (400m hurdles), Natoya Gould (400m), Arna Erega (200m), and Kawayne Fischer (200m).
Competition begins on Friday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. with men's and women's hammer and javelin events. Events begin on Saturday, April 12th at 9:00 a.m. with the discus and shot put events.
