Last meet before CIAA Championships

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's outdoor track and field team performed comfortably on their home track during the 2014 JCSU Invitational held April 11-12th at the Irwin Belk Complex.

Senior Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) finished third in the 400m (47.45, SB); he was just behind JCSU alumnus Leford Green (46.88).The time is a NCSS Division II provisional qualifier and ranks No.9 on the TFRRS performance list. Freshman Joshua Cunningham (Ontario, Canada) clocked a PB time of 47.52 (a NCAA provisional qualifying time), while sophomore Waynee Hyman (Warwick, NY) placed sixth in 48.39 (SB).
 
Redshirt freshman David Ellis had a PB in the 100m prelims 10.93. Ellis placed eighth in the final. Freshman Gawayne Stephenson (Clarendon, Jamaica) (22.35) and junior Rajiv Service (Trelawny, Jamaica) finished fifth and eighth, respectively in the 200m final.
 
Junior Geovanie Foote (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) raced to a SB time of 1:57.22 in the 800m. Senior teammate Nykwan George (Long Island, NY) placed eighth overall in the final (1:59.99, PB). Sophomore Patrick Campbell (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) continued his strong season, winning the 400m hurdles in 52.96.
 
Senior Horane Holgate (St. Thomas, Jamaica) leaped to second in the long jump (6.90m, SB). Sophomore Christian Broome (Manchester, CT) also had a personal best (5.89m) placing 15th.
 
Senior Randale Watson (Kingston, Jamaica) placed second with a throw of 15.41m in the shot put. Sophomore throwers Marco Vahoua (Marietta, GA) 13.00m and Trey Patterson (North Plainfield, NJ) 12.90 both achieved their respective personal best standards for the shot put event.
 
Watson returned to finish in the discus in 49.46m, while sophomore Tracy Jones (Charleston, SC) claimed fourth place (43.99m). Senior Joshua Chasse (Fayetteville, NC) hurled 44.52m in the javelin for a new personal best, while fellow senior Kenneth Page (Valley, AL) had an effort good for 10th in the event (38.12m).
 
The 4x400m team of Hyman, Campbell, Cunningham, and Berch closed the show with a new season best time of 3:09.23. The time moved JCSU into No. 2 position on the TFRRS Division II performance list.
The Golden Bulls will now focus their preparations on the 2014 CIAA Outdoor Championships held in Petersburg, VA on April 18-19th.
