Men's Basketball Falls at Rival Livingstone, 93-81

Box Score Salisbury, N.C. (Jan. 24, 2015) – Livingstone's men's basketball team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never trailed en route to a 93-81 win over Johnson C. Smith on Saturday afternoon at Trent Gymnasium.

The Blue Bears shot 53.8% (35-65) in the outing and got a game-high 27 points from Hakeem Jackson.  Jackson also snagged 14 rebounds for the Blue Bears.  The Golden Bulls' Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) had 26 points by going 10-17 in the loss.  Lemon also knocked down four three-pointers for JCSU.  Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) was the only other JCSU player in double figures with 10 points.  Robert Davis, III (West Friendship, Md.) and Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) had nine each for JCSU.

The Golden Bulls shot for 35.1%  (27-77) in the game, but was solid from the free throw line, knocking down 20 of 25 attempts for 80%.

The Blue Bears led by as many as 20 points following a Hakeem Jackson jumper at the 4:59 mark.  JCSU would go on a run, cutting the Blue Bear lead to eight at 48-40 with 23 seconds remaining in the first half.  Livingstone would hit a free throw with four seconds left to provide the 49-40 halftime lead.

In the second half, Livingstone was able to extend the lead to double-digits on a tip-in from Darresse Johnson with 19:14 remaining.  JCSU cut the lead to eight points on two occasions, the latter following a Stedmon Lemon three-pointer with 11:35 to play.

JCSU would get no closer as Livingstone stretched the lead back to double-figures, taking the 93-81 win.

JCSU will return to Brayboy Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 28  to host Winston-Salem State at 7:30 p.m.
