Quinesha Lynch hits the game-winner for JCSU

Box Score Richmond, Va. (Jan. 5, 2015)Quinesha Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) knocked down a shot at the buzzer to lift the Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team to a 70-68 CIAA win at Virginia Union.

Leading by two points at 68-66, JCSU fouled Virginia Union's Trylanda Jennings.  Jennings would calmly hit both free throws with 57 seconds remaining, tying the game at 68 each, the sixth tie of the game.  JCSU would miss a three point attempt, then turn the ball over with six seconds left.  JCSU's Anika Jones would force a VUU turnover with a steal and Lynch's layup at the buzzer provided the 70-68 final.

JCSU had four players score in double figures in the win.  Lynch led the way, scoring 12 points on 5-9 shooting.  Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) had 11 points while Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) and Amena Brent (Chicago, Ill.) each scored 10 points for the Golden Bulls.  Anika Jones (Shelby, N.C.) led the way on the boards by grabbing six.  Jones also scored nine points for JCSU

Collectively, JCSU shot 42.9% on 30-70 shooting.  The Golden Bulls went 0-12 from beyond the arc, marking the first time this season that JCSU failed to convert a three-point attempt.  Virginia Union was able to manage a 46.3% effort on 25-54 shooting. 

Virginia Union was led by Taylor White's 17 points while Lady Walker chipped in 15.  Jasmin Dancy had 12 and ShaHadah Barrett had 10 in the loss for the Panthers.

JCSU improves to 12-1 (2-0 CIAA) while Virginia Union falls to 4-7 (0-2 CIAA).

The Golden Bulls return to Brayboy Gymnasium for the first time in 2015 on Thursday night, Jan. 8 with a 5:30 p.m. CIAA tilt against Chowan.
