JCSU Men's Basketball Drops Chowan, 87-77
Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 8, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith men's basketball team took an early lead and never trailed en route to a 87-77 win over Chowan in the CIAA home opener at Brayboy Gym on Thursday night.
All five of JCSU's starters scored in double-figures with
Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) leading the way with 19 points.
Emilio Parks (Ashtabula, OH) had 17 points,
Robert Davis, III (West Friendship, Md.) had 14,
Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) had 13 and
Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) chipped in 12.
Chowan got 20 points each from Josh Mellette and Hank Edmonds. The other Hawk in double-figures was Kortez Smith with 10 points.
JCSU led by as many as 16 in the first half and extended the lead to 18 at the 17:57 mark in the second half (50-32). Chowan would chip away at the Golden Bull lead and got it down to eight points on two different occasions, the latter with 1:20 remaining, but they could not get any further, with JCSU taking the 87-77 win.
JCSU has now won two straight and improves to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in CIAA play. Chowan falls to 8-5, and 2-2 in league action.
The Golden Bulls will host Elizabeth City State on Saturday night, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
