Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Nov. 21, 2015) –  Visiting Benedict erased a 21-point second half deficit to take the lead late in the game, but JCSU made its free throws down the stretch to come away with the 81-78 non-conference win in men's basketball action at Brayboy Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bulls held a 58-37 lead with 15:20 to play, but Benedict started to chip away.  The Tigers were able to go on an 18-2 run over a span of over four minutes to close to within five points at 62-57.

After JCSU boosted the lead to seven points on an Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.), jumper but a shot from Benedict's Christopher Spencer fell through to cut further into the JCSU lead, making it 66-63 with 7:05 to play.

The lead would shrink to two points with 3:02 to play and Benedict was able to take the 75-73 lead with 1:58 to play after Brennan Reynard's basket.  JCSU the drew even at 75-75 after senior Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) canned two free throws after drawing a Tiger foul.  Another pair of JCSU free throws, this time from Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) gave JCSU the advantage at 77-75.

Benedict's Quayshun Hawkins would then drill his eighth three-pointer of the afternoon, giving the Tigers another one point lead, 78-77 with 55 seconds remaining.  Lemon would then miss a driving jumper but secured the rebound and was fouled by Reynard.  Lemon then calmly nailed two free throws to again put JCSU ahead 79-78 with 36 seconds left.  Following a missed Hawkins three point attempt, Davis secured the rebound and was able to knock down a pair of free throws to provide the 81-78 final.

Following a Benedict timeout, Jordan Smith's game-tying three point attempt fell short, allowing JCSU to escape with the win.

JCSU continued their great shooting, going 28-of-49 from the field, good for 57.1%.  JCSU also shot 40% (4-10) from long range and 77.8% (21-27) from the line.
