Livingstone Downs JCSU 35-12 in Sloppy Commemorative Classic

Box Score Salisbury, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2015) – Livingstone forced five JCSU turnovers and limited the Golden Bull offense to 67 yards en route to breaking a six-game losing skid in the Commemorative Classic, 35-12 in muddy conditions at Alumni Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
JCSU opened the scoring in the first quarter when
Jordan Lane (Charlotte, N.C.) found
Eugene Holmes (Columbia, S.C.) for a nine yard touchdown strike at the 2:47 mark to put JCSU up 6-0. The two play, nine yard drive was set up by a 53 yard punt return by receiver
Fred Scott (Stone Mountain, Ga.).The Blue Bears responded with a five play, 72 yard march that was capped by a Drew Powell nine-yard rush to give Livingstone the 7-6 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, Scott provided some fireworks, taking the kick 89 yards to pay dirt, weaving in and out of would-be Livingstone tacklers on the way to his first touchdown of the season on a kickoff return. Scott's heroics made in 12-7 JCSU.
It was all Blue Bears from that point, as Livingstone got two touchdown receptions from Jalen Hendicks, one from eight yards out and the other for 28 yards to make it 21-12 midway through the third quarter.
The Blue Bears would go up 28-12 after a Marcus Basey 13 yard run with 8:21 left in the third and would cap the scoring when Marcus Nolan stepped in front of a
Harold Herbin (Fayetteville, N.C.) pass and raced 55 yards for the touchdown. Leonardo Manzo would add the point after to provide the 35-12 final with 2:55 remaining in the third.
Neither team was able to put any points up in the fourth quarter, with both battling sloppy conditions.
JCSU got 18 tackles from linebacker
Austin Jacques (Springdale, Md.) while
Javard Gaines (Hackensack, N.J.) had nine stops, including one sack.
Offensively, JCSU freshman running back
Desean Binyard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished with 99 yards rushing on 14 carries.
With the loss, JCSU completes the season 4-6 overall, 3-4 in CIAA action and 3-2 in Southern Division play.
