JCSU Women's Basketball Rolls Past Queens, 69-44

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Dec 1, 2015) – The JCSU women's basketball team had a huge second quarter, limiting Queens to only nine points and cruised the rest of the way, taking the 69-44 non-conference win at the Levine Center on Tuesday evening.

After taking a 16-13 lead after the first quarter, the Golden Bulls were able to take control in the second quarter, outscoring the Royals 16-7 over the first seven minutes to take the 35-20 lead.  The run was capped by back-to-back three pointers by A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.).  JCSU would take the 35-22 lead into the halftime break.  The Golden Bulls managed a 46.7% shooting effort in the first half, going 14-of-30 from the field.  JCSU also did damage from beyond the arc, hitting 4-of-7 from long range, good for 57.1%.

JCSU was able to stretch the lead to 42-26 midway through the third.  In that stretch, the Golden Bulls got a jumper and a free throw from Krista White (Dayton, Ohio) and a 15-footer from the wing from senior Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.).  The Golden Bulls were able to hold Queens to only nine points in the quarter taking the 55-31 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, the Golden Bulls were able to stretch the lead to 28 points at 67-39 and never led by less than 25 points down the stretch.

JCSU was led by A'Diyah Ussery, as she finished with 16 points on a 4-of-6 shooting effort that included three long balls.  Krista White chipped in 13 points while Amena Brent (Chicago, Ill.) was the leading JCSU rebounder with eight boards on the night.

Collectively JCSU shot 48.1% (25-of-52) from the field and 41.7% (5-of-12) from beyond the arc.  The Golden Bulls forced 18 Royals turnovers, converting those miscues into 18 points.  JCSU also controlled play in the paint, outscoring Queens 32-18.  JCSU also dominated bench points, outscoring the Queens bench 38-4.

The win improves JCSU to 4-3 overall while Queens falls to 2-4.
