Charlotte, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2015) –
The Johnson C. Smith men's and women's basketball teams will continue CIAA play on Saturday, Dec. 19, taking on CIAA Northern Division foe Virginia Union.  The women's game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m. at Brayboy Gym.

The JCSU women's team enters the game at 7-4 overall, 1-0 in CIAA after taking an 84-73 overtime win over Lincoln on Dec. 15.  In that game, JCSU battled back from down 19 points in the third quarter to force overtime.  Cierra Levias (Seattle, Wash.) forced overtime with a slicing layup with three seconds in regulation to bring JCSU even at 68-68.

In overtime, JCSU went ahead for good at 73-71 when freshman A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) drilled a three pointer with 3:49 to go.  Senior Amena Brent (Chicago, Ill.) scored seven of her 10 points in the extra period to key the JCSU win.  Ussery finished with a team-high 17 points while hitting 5-of-10 three pointers. Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) had 13 points and MaryAnna Moore (Laurens, S.C.) posted her second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Virginia Union enters at 8-0 on the season and is currently ranked No. 20 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.  The Lady Panthers handily won the Rollins College Classic in Winter Park, Fla. on Dec. 14-15 and followed that performance with a 93-68 pasting of Claflin on Thursday night.  Against Claflin, Kiana Johnson scored 34 points and dished out 10 assists.  It marks the second consecutive game that Johnson has scored 34 points.  Ashley Smith scored 19 points and teammate Lady Walker also scored in double-figures with 16 points.

On the men's side, Virginia Union (5-6, 0-1 CIAA) enters after narrowly falling to Alderson-Broaddus, 66-65 on Thursday night.  Ray Anderson led the Panthers with 22 points while Kory Cooley had a season-high 12 points.

The JCSU men's team (5-4, 1-0 CIAA) enters after taking an easy 90-79 CIAA opening win over Lincoln on Dec. 15.  Against the Lions, senior Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) continued his streak of double-figure outings by scoring a game-high 25 points on a 10-of-13 shooting effort.  Lemon also knocked down three from long range while teammate Joshua Linson (San Antonio, Tex.) canned four long-balls, finishing with 12 points.
Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) had 24 points for JCSU and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the win.  Pratt's performance marks the fourth time this season that he has scored at least 20 points.  Sophomore guard Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) also had a solid outing for the Golden Bulls by posting 11 points and dishing five assists.
