Charlotte, N.C. (Dec. 5, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team will hit the floor on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3:00 p.m. hosting Virginia State in a non-conference tilt in Brayboy Gym.
JCSU (5-3) is coming off an 88-56 blowout win over local rival Johnson & Wales University on Friday afternoon. Against the Wildcats, senior
Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) posted her first double-double of the season, notching 16 points and 10 rebounds on an 8-of-11 shooting effort. Teammates
Krista White (Dayton, Ohio) and
Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) also scored in double-figures, with White pouring in 11 and Hall posting 10 points.
The JCSU defense was able to force 38 turnovers that led to 46 Golden Bulls' points while the offense powered past the Wildcats by using a solid inside game, outscoring the opposition 60-28 in the paint.
Virginia State enters the game 2-3 and are led by senior Wynterra Pittman
. She leads the Trojans averaging 17 points and 12.2 rebounds per game and has a team-high free throw percentage of 73.9%. Junior guard Domonique Hagins averages 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
