Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2015) –  After leading by only two points at halftime, the Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team exploded for 59 points in the second half behind 70% shooting to cruise past visiting St. Augustine's 97-73 on Wednesday evening in Brayboy Gym.

In the first half, JCSU and the Lady Falcons fought through seven ties, only to see the Golden Bulls build a three point lead at 38-35 with 45 seconds remaining.  The Lady Falcons were able to close the gap to two points following a Shanika Harris free throw with three seconds left to provide the 38-36 halftime margin.

The second half was an entirely different story, as JCSU went on a 7-0 run to push the score to 45-36 with 18:35 left.   The Golden Bulls would stretch the lead to 17 points (64-47) following an Alishia Mosely (Bass, N.C.) layup with 11:01 remaining.

After two free throws from Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) put JCSU up 73-55 with 8:37 left.  Following a Lady Falcon miss, Anika Jones (Shelby, N.C.) also nailed two free throws.  The Golden Bulls defense forced a turnover and Jordan converted on the easy layup to boost the lead to 77-55 at the 8:19 mark.

LaKendra Wilkerson (Greensboro, N.C.) put JCSU up 81-57 with 7:04 left after a pair of free throws of her own.  St. Augustine's would turn it over again, leading to yet another fast break layup from Jordan, spurring a timeout at 6:45 with JCSU ahead 83-57.
St. Augustine's had their three minute scoring drought snapped when Terri Jacobs hit two free throws to make it 83-61 JCSU.  On the ensuing possession, JCSU's Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) hit a layup and the ensuing free throw, capping a three-point play to put JCSU up 86-61 with 6:03 left.

The Lady Falcons would get a three point play of their own, when Jacobs dropped in a tough layup and made her free throw with 5:38 left, cutting the lead to 86-64.  Porscha Walton would then trim it to 86-66 after a JCSU turnover.

The Lady Falcons would then go on to trim the JCSU lead to 88-73 but could get no closer, as JCSU closed the game on a 9-0 run to take the 97-73 win.

The 97 points scored is the most since a 101-58 home win over Lincoln on Feb. 21, 2009.
