JCSU Women's Tennis Beats Winston-Salem State, 6-3

Winston-Salem, N.C. (March 17, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith women's tennis team took four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to down Winston-Salem State on Tuesday afternoon at the WSSU Tennis Complex

At No. 2 singles, Rankin Anderson (Decatur, Ga.) took a 6-1, 6-3 win over Deja Stewart while Khadijah Battle (Atlanta, Ga.) won her match at No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over WSSU's Gabriel Lindsay.  Also getting singles wins were Amanda Pettway (Atlanta, Ga.) at No. 5 and Kaylin Roman (Atlanta, Ga.) at No. 6

In doubles competition, JCSU took two matches, each by an 8-4 count.  Battle and teammate Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, Ga.) defeated Devan Corpening and Aja Grant 8-4 at No. 2 while Kaylin Roman (Atlanta, Ga.) andMichaela Colvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) downed Anye Walker and Zakia Spencer also by an 8-4 count.  At No. 1 doubles, Rankin Anderson and Nichelle Heard fell to Gabriel Lindsay and Deja Stewart, 9-8 (10-5)

With the win, JCSU improves to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in CIAA play while WSSU falls to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in league action.
