JCSU Women's Tennis Drops Matches to Chowan & Virginia State

Charlotte, N.C. (March 9, 2015) –  The Johnson C. Smith women's team fell to CIAA foes Chowan, 9-0  and to Virginia State, 8-1 at the CIAA Round Up in Winston-Salem, N.C.

At #1 singles, JCSU's Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, Ga.) fell to Natal Kamenshchikova, 6-0, 6-0.
The  Golden Bulls' Rankin Anderson (Decatur, Ga.) dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 6-0 decision at #2 singles to Polina Novachuk and JCSU's Amanda Pettway (Atlanta, Ga.) fell to Chowan's Natalia Andrade, 6-3-6-1 at #5 singles.

In #1 doubles, Anderson and Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, Ga.) fell 8-3 to Kamenshchikova and teammate Victori Smolchenkova.  In the #2 doubles match, Novachuk and Straffai Cleveland downed Khadijah Battle (Atlanta, Ga.) and Ogundipe, 8-3.

In the match against Virginia State, the Golden Bulls fell 8-1 with the lone JCSU point coming from a win at #2 doubles.  Khadijah Battle and Victoria Ogundipe defeated VSU's Majhanae Thomas and Nakesha Harry by an 8-2 score.

The Golden Bulls will return to the courts on Saturday, March 14 with a 2:00 p.m. CIAA match at Livingstone.
