Chowan Downs JCSU Women's Tennis In CIAA Semifinals

Charlotte, N.C. (April 18, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith women's tennis team fell to top seeded Chowan, 5-0 in the semifinals of the 2015 CIAA Women's Tennis Championships at Hornets Nest Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks claimed all three doubles matches and took the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches to provide the final. Chowan advances to the championship match and improves to 19-6 overall while JCSU completes their season with an 11-10 overall record.
The Hawks picked up wins in all three doubles positions with Natalya Kamenshchikova and Victoria Smolchenkova earning an 8-5 win in the number one position over
Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, Ga.) and
Rankin Anderson (Decatur, Ga.) . Polina Novachuk and Jessica De Backre teamed up for an 8-4 win in the number two spot over
Khadijah Battle (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, Ga.) while Jennifer Humphrey and Natalia Andrade earned an 8-1 win in number three doubles play over JCSU's
Michaela Colvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) and
Kaylin Colvin (Atlanta, Ga.).
Kamenshchikova and De Backre picked up singles wins in number one and four singles play, respectively to secure the 5-0 win. Kamenshchikova defeated Ogundipe and De Backre downed Heard.
