JCSU Begins Competition at NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships on Thursday Afternoon

Charlotte, N.C. (May 15, 2015)
 – The Johnson C. Smith University track & field teams begin their quest for NCAA Championships as competition begins on Thursday afternoon, May 21, 2015 at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.

On the women's side, Kenrisha Brathwaite (Bridgetown, Barbados) and Shamaz Quince (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each qualified for the 100m hurdles.  Teammate Tovea Jenkins (St. James, Jamaica) will compete in the 400m after she set a qualifying mark of 52.42 at the CIAA Championships.  That time is currently the third-fastest time of the spring.
 
In the relays, JCSU's 4x400m relay team of Crystal Campbell (St. Catherine, Jamaica), Domenique Julius-Williams (Oshawa, Ontario), Shanice Pettigrew (West Palm Beach, Fla.) will begin competition on Friday, May 22 at 7:50 p.m. (CDT)

The JCSU men qualified four athletes in individual events and also qualified for two relays.  Sophomore Patrick Campbell (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) earned a spot in the 400m hurdles while  Joshua Cunningham (Toronto, Ontario) and Waynee Hyman (Warwick, N.Y.) each qualified in the 400m.  Hyman will also compete in the 200m.

Michane Rickets (Kingston, Jamaica) earned a spot in the long jump by leaping to a school-record 7.42m mark at the Georgia Invitational.

In the relays, the 4x100 team of David Ellis (Katy, Texas), Rajiv Service (Fairmouth, Jamaica), Hyman and Cunningham will participate due to the 40.15 they posted while winning the CIAA Championship.  The 4x400, the team of Campbell, Hyman, Service and Cunningham will also be in competition.
