Jovontay Williams were among the 54 players that were invited by the Carolina Panthers to take part in a two-day rookie minicamp beginning Friday, May 8 at the Panthers practice facility in Uptown Charlotte.
Capers, a Charlotte native, capped his senior season with the Golden Bulls with 40 receptions for 449 yards. He hauled in two touchdowns on the year, both on Oct. 25 at league foe Shaw. All told, Capers finished his JCSU career with 136 receptions for 1,554 yards with 13 touchdowns.
Williams, a defensive back from Stone Mountain, Ga., enters the minicamp as a prospect at defensive end. He finished his senior campaign at JCSU with 38 tackles (22 solo, 16 assists) including 15.5 for loss. He also registered 7.5 sacks on the season. Additionally, he added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
For his career, Williams finished with 69 total tackles (42 solo, 27 assists) 20.0 sacks, and 28.0 tackles for loss. He earned All-American honors from the Heritage Sports Network and from HBCU Gameday in 2013 and was an All-CIAA first team selection.
He also played in the Inaugural FCS Bowl in Miami, Fla. On Dec. 7, 2014.
Capers and Williams were among only six players invited from universities in North Carolina and were the only CIAA players selected to participate in the minicamp.
