Volleyball Splits in Day One at CIAA Roundup

Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith volleyball team split their matches on day one of the CIAA Volleyball Roundup in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In match one, JCSU lost a five-set heartbreaker to Bowie State by scores of 19-25, 25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 11-15.
Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) led JCSU with 10 kills while
Salesse Stovall (Roanoke, Va.) and
Gracyn Doctor (Charleston, S.C.) each had seven.
Khadijah Segura (Minnepolis, Minn) managed 17 assists while
Jana Ajdukovic (Zagreb, Croatia) led the Golden Bulls defensively, with 10 digs. Segura also contributed six aces.
In match two, JCSU gained their first win of the season, a 3-2 (25-15, 28-26, 18-25, 17-25, 17-15) win over Lincoln. Three JCSU players managed double-figure kills in the match with freshman
Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) knocking down 14 with Doctor and Stovall contributing 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Segura added 43 assists in the win while Adams had 21 digs.
Raven Bandy (Loganville, Ga.) had 1 digs and Segura added 11 in the win.
With the split, JCSU now stands at 1-8 overall, 1-1 in CIAA play.
The Golden Bulls will wrap up play on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. match against Virginia Union.
