Box Score Ettrick, Va. (Jan. 12, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team got 18 points from senior Ashley Porter, 16 from junior guard Krista White and 15 from guard Quinesha Lynch and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line in overtime en route to a 70-65 CIAA road win over Virginia State on Tuesday night.

The win boosts JCSU to an 11-6 record, 4-2 in CIAA play while Virginia State falls to 7-7 overall, 3-2 in league action.

In first quarter action, Virginia State jumped out to an 11-4 lead thanks to a three pointer from Philandra Jordan.  JCSU would then go on a 9-2 run to tie it at 13-13 after a fast break basket from White with 3:36 left.  JCSU would then grab a two point advantage at 19-17 with 1:21 left after Porter nailed a jumper.

In the second quarter, VSU grabbed the 23-19 lead on back-to-back three pointers by Nandi Taylor with the latter coming with 7:22 to play.  After JCSU rallied to tie the game at 27-27, VSU would then end the quarter on a 6-3 run, nailing two three pointers, one from Jordan with 1:43 to play and another from Donae Moguel with 47 seconds before the half.  White then got a layup to drop for the Golden Bulls to provide the 33-30 halftime score.  All told, VSU connected for four three pointers in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, VSU again bolted to a five point lead at 39-34, but the Golden Bulls would battle back to take the 43-41 lead after another Porter jumper.  A VSU free throw from Domonique Hagins made it 43-42 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, JCSU quickly built a seven point lead on two Porter free throws that made it 49-42.  VSU would close to 53-51 at the 4:01 mark after Domonique Hagins canned two free throws.   JCSU would go up 57-53 but the Trojans tied it at 57-57 after Hagins connected on a jumper with 22 seconds left.  After a JCSU timeout, the Golden Bulls would have two shots at the game winner, but Porter's jumper was off the mark and two Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) misses would send it to overtime.

In the extra frame, a pair of Krista White free throws and a LaTondra Morrow (Charlotte, N.C.) three pointer would put JCSU up for good with the Golden Bulls taking the 70-65 win.
