Virginia State Topples JCSU Men, 83-68

Box Score Ettrick, Va. (Jan. 12, 2016) – Virginia State raced out to an 18 point first half lead and never looked back, downing the Johnson C. Smiith men's basketball team 83-68 in front of a large crowd at Daniel Gym on Tuesday night.

JCSU (7-8, 2-4 CIAA) got a game-high 20 points from senior Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.), while teammates Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) and Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively in the loss.

Collectively, JCSU shot 58.8% (10-17) from long range, with Pratt leading the way on a 5-of-6 effort.  Robert Davis and Joshua Linson (San Antonio, Tex.) each knocked down a pair of long balls on the night.

After finding themselves down 44-24 at halftime, JCSU would get as close as 75-65 after a pair of Robert Davis free throws at the 3:12 mark.  JCSU cut further into the VSU lead after Davis nailed a three pointer with 2:24 remaining, trimming the VSU lead to 77-68.

The Golden Bulls would get no closer, as VSU scored the next six points to close out the game, taking the 83-68 win.

JCSU will conclude the four-game road swing this Saturday as they begin Southern Division play at Fayetteville State.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
