Golden Bulls Travel to Fayetteville State on Saturday

Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 15, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's basketball teams will finish off their season-long four game road swing by visiting Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon.  Tipoff for the CIAA Southern Divisional battle will begin at 2:00 p.m. for the women with the men to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m. at FSU's Capel Arena.

The JCSU women enter the game on a two-game CIAA winning streak.  The Golden Bulls improved their record to 11-6, 4-2 in CIAA play with a hard-fought, 70-65 overtime win at Virginia State on Tuesday, Jan. 12.  Against the Trojans, JCSU had three players score in double figures, led by senior forward Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.).  Porter scored 18 points on a 7-of-13 shooting effort while securing a team-high eight rebounds.  Junior guard Krista White (Dayton, Ohio) had 16 points and seven rebounds on the night, which included a 5-of-6 shooting performance.  Fellow guard Quinesha Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) scored 15 points and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line for JCSU.

Fayetteville State enters the matchup sporting a 9-8 overall record, and 3-3 CIAA record after defeating Bowie State 55-52 on Monday evening in Bowie, Md.  Against the Bulldogs, FSU's Vernessa Hinnant and Courtney Best each scored 14 points, with Hinnant corralling eight rebounds and Best bringing down nine.  Bria Robinson also had a productive night for FSU, securing nine rebounds while scoring seven points.

On the men's side, JCSU (7-8, 2-4 CIAA) looks to snap a four game slide after dropping an 83-68 decision at Virginia State.  Against the Trojans, senior Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) dropped a game-high 20 points on a 6-of-11 outing.  Pratt also hit on 5-of-6 from long range to lead the Golden Bulls.  Senior Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) had 11 points and five rebounds while sophomore guard
Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) had 10 points and four assists.

Fayetteville State (7-8, 2-3 CIAA) enters the game coming off an 85-72 loss at Bowie State.  Against the Bulldogs, FSU's Joshua Dawson knocked down 17 points and had six rebounds in the losing effort. Teammate Xavier Robinson had 15 points while William Tibbs, Jason Lee and Michael Tyson each had nine points for FSU.
