JCSU Women Drop 65-54 Decision to Livingstone

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 25, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team was unable to overcome a poor shooting effort and committed 25 turnovers and fell to visiting Livingstone in CIAA Southern Division play in Brayboy Gym on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Bulls got a team-high 14 points from Quinesha Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) and a 12 point, seven rebound outing from senior Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) in the loss.  Livingstone had three players score in double figures with Amber Curtis and Ariana De'Jesus leading the way with 13 each. 
Zena Lovette also added 10 points for the Blue Bears.

After trailing 15-11 after the first quarter, JCSU suffered through a dismal shooting second quarter, only managing a 2-for-17 effort and trailed 27-21 at the halftime break.  The Golden Bulls then fought back, tying the game for the first time at 27-27 after Lynch converted a layup at the 8:18 mark.  The teams then battled to a 37-37 tie before the Blue Bears embarked on an 8-0 run to close the third quarter to lead 45-37.

The Blue Bears were able to build the lead to as many as 13 points following a Brittany Taylor layup with 5:32 remaining.  JCSU could not mount a serious charge, with Livingstone able to hold a double digit lead through much of the fourth quarter.  The Golden Bulls did manage to cut the lead to 60-54 after
A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) splashed a three with 25 seconds left, but Livingstone was able to salt away the game at the line, hitting five free throws inside of 23 seconds to claim the 65-54 win.

Collectively JCSU shot a disappointing 16-of-60 from the field (26.7%), including a 3-of-15 (20%) showing from long range.  Livingstone managed a 34.5% effort (19-of-55) while forcing 25 JCSU turnovers.

The loss drops the Golden Bulls to 12-8 overall, 5-4 in CIAA play and 1-2 in the Southern Division.  Livingstone jumps to 9-8 overall, 4-4 in CIAA action and 1-2 in Divisional play.

The Golden Bulls hit the road for their next contest on Wednesday night, Jan. 27,  playing at Winston-Salem State.  Tipoff from the Gaines Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
